'Signs of cracks' within Iran's government as protests endure. If you're curious, here are some Facebook groups I'm a part of:įacebook also offers exposure by allowing people to publicize their events and gatherings, which normally I would never have known about. It amazes me what 'groups' and 'events' on Facebook allow one to do (beyond stalking high-school crushes). I spend my time on specialty groups learning about trees, birds, history, Jazz or Indian highways. I'm still on Facebook, but in a different way. I felt like I was neither social, nor was I networking, though I spent so much time online that I started looking for places to truly socialize, make new friends and learn new things. My goal with these experiments was to find ways to unwind, network, and learn, in parallel. I'm trying to point out alternative platforms, and even alternative ways to approach these very same platforms that have helped me make productive use of my leisure time. I'm certainly not trying to write a self-help piece for social media addicts. Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking anyone to quit WhatsApp or throw away their phone.
